Cartooning with numbers

In this activity, each kid used numbers (1 to 9) to create characters representing different emotions.  This is a simple way to expose        children to diverse ways of creativity with common things.

Scary Stories

Because, what's October without a scary story?  Using character, setting, tools, and problem cards the kids had to create an original

story using those specific elements.  This is a perfect activity to expose the participant to fiction elements in literature and to see

the grammatic difficulties for each kids.

David M., 9 years old

“Once upon a time there was this monster under my bed.  I heard scratches, I wake up and ran outside, but a mummy trapped me.  I tried to escape to the other side, but a werewolf was waiting for me and I got ate”.

Byron R., 10 years old

“The poison got the spider, which ate the eyeballs.  It got the dragon in the haunted house, then the knight battles the zombies”.

Stop-Motion Short Film

One of the last activities of October was to create a special type of animated film, called the stop motion.  We use real objects - made with paper, to make the short film.  Each child creates a short story using a storyboard which is going to be their  guide through the moviemaking.

Using a camera or smartphone the filmmakers have to shot every picture moving the object/character little by little in each one of the pictures.  This would provide a sequence and after all the editing we recreate movement.  Pyramid presents two of the three stop-motion short films created by kids with a tiny help from us. Enjoy it!

Today's News Interviews

Pyramid had being training the kids to create a Digital Newspaper for next year, and this is a preview of what we being teaching them.  This section shows the first interview made by our most loyal kid, Byron R., to an AmeriCorps NCCC member, Julia M. The interview consist in tree simple questions about gratefulness.
